It was many years ago, perhaps 14 or 15 years. On his annual visit to Detroit, His Holiness Romapada Swami Maharaja gave the morning Srimad Bhagavatam class at the home of one of the congregation’s devotee living in the suburbs. It was yet another enthralling class and through the depth of his words and deep realisations, Maharaja took us to places that we normally had no access to. His class left all of us spellbound and by the end, we were craving for more.

During the question and answer session, a devotee asked a rather profound question. Maharaja’s ability to answer in a way that left the audience fully satisfied, did not go unnoticed. So the devotee wondered aloud how Maharaja was able to answer so perfectly time and again, even with complex subjects enunciated in Srimad Bhagavatam. A hush descended as we eagerly awaited Maharaja’s response. In a voice filled with humility & gratitude, Romapada Maharaja simply replied: 

“I’m addicted to Srimad Bhagavatam”.

Srila Romapada Swami Maharaja’s unfathomably deep attachment to Srimad Bhagavatam was all too obvious to anyone who knew him, and to hear this truth from him, in his own words, thrilled our hearts!
